\"\"What\u2019s the bravest thing you\u2019ve ever done?<\/p>\n

Truthfully, I\u2019m not sure I\u2019ve ever done anything that could be considered brave. To me, being brave means to be afraid of something you have to do and then doing it, pushing past the fear. I\u2019ve jumped in a car and driven halfway across country alone\u2014before the age of cell phones\u2014but I wasn\u2019t afraid to do it. Seemed like natural, in fact. Call it undeserved confidence. I\u2019ve been in and out of hospitals and hade multiple surgeries, but I had no choice, so I know they don\u2019t count as being brave. I\u2019ve never saved anyone, fought a fire, or even faced down a bully. Thinking about all this, I feel kind of useless\u2026<\/p>\n

In my defense, maybe I\u2019ve never had to be brave. I\u2019ve spent life surrounded by good people who loved me and protected me. I\u2019ve never been confronted by bullies, nor have I been in dangerous situations where folks needed saving.<\/p>\n

So, I guess I\u2019d have to say, the closest thing I\u2019ve done that could be\"\" called brave is trucking. I gave up every material thing I had and a very good job that wasn\u2019t easy to get, in order to go on the road. And I was scared of failing\u2014what would we do if I hated it or driving a tractor-trailer didn\u2019t work out? But my fear was mitigated by 1) a wise woman reassuring me that our parents wouldn\u2019t let us starve on the streets if we didn\u2019t make it as truckers, and b) I wasn\u2019t alone\u2014I had hubby with me. Add to it, I was too young and stupid to be afraid, so does that count? I don\u2019t know. Can\u2019t help it, though, it\u2019s as close as I can come.<\/p>\n
