The bigotry threatens the most vulnerable of her family.<\/p>\n Bias within the Wayfarers and against the Wayfarers frustrates Adara as she and her admin council defend against the Humans only group.\u00a0 The family is threatened by the people Adara rescued.<\/p>\n Can they find a way to peace or will the prejudice tear apart the connections Adara and the Wayfarers are making?<\/p>\n Excerpt from Wayfarer<\/em> book one<\/strong><\/p>\n Hair sprawled out over her pillows, Adara lay naked on her bed.\u00a0She returned\u00a0to her quarters\u00a0after the\u00a0fighter vessel detained the\u00a0long hauler.\u00a0Lolli\u00a0was\u00a0returned to her father frightened but relatively unharmed.\u00a0The other victims of the human traffickers\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0as lucky.\u00a0Adara scrambled on hearing a\u00a0knock at her door.\u00a0She grabbed the first shirt in her drawer.\u00a0\u201cJust a minute,\u201d she called rushing to find jeans.<\/p>\n The t-shirt\u00a0hung to her mid-thighs, she gave up on trying to grab pants and answered her door, hoping it\u00a0would be\u00a0Lisa.\u00a0Captain Flannery stood at her door.\u00a0\u201cSir,\u201d she said.\u00a0She backed into her quarters.<\/p>\n Decker stepped into\u00a0Adara\u2019s\u00a0quarters, noted the heap her uniform lay in on the floor.\u00a0The t-shirt she wore\u00a0was\u00a0inside out.\u00a0\u201cDid I wake you?\u201d he asked remembering she slept nude.\u00a0He felt a tightening in\u00a0his\u00a0groin\u00a0at the thought of her warm and naked\u00a0in bed.<\/p>\n \u201cNo, sir,\u201d she blushed.<\/p>\n \u201cI see,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0up yet,\u201d she tried to explain.<\/p>\n He paced around her small quarters.\u00a0Seeing\u00a0a basket with her crocheting in it, he\u00a0noted the yarn\u00a0was\u00a0something he and Hal bought her.\u00a0She still\u00a0had\u00a0no pictures or decorations in her quarters.\u00a0He came to tell her she did\u00a0a good job.\u00a0The Etiennes certainly thought she\u00a0had. Patr had scooped her up into another hug, kissed her forehead as she left the bridge.\u00a0Frall\u00a0had\u00a0even hugged her warmly.\u00a0What\u00a0was\u00a0with these other men touching her?\u00a0He felt fire and rage in him as he thought of her being with them.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s your relationship with Patr,\u201d Decker demanded completely forgetting\u00a0why\u00a0he\u00a0was\u00a0there.<\/p>\n \u201cI told you.\u00a0He\u2019s a brother to me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe way the two of you\u00a0fondled\u00a0each other on the bridge didn\u2019t seem very sibling like,\u201d Decker accused.<\/p>\n \u201cHe…\u00a0he put his hand,\u201d she stumbled over her\u00a0words.<\/p>\n \u201cYes.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0my point.\u00a0His\u00a0hands\u00a0were\u00a0all over you,\u201d\u00a0Decker growled at her.<\/p>\n \u201cHis hands weren\u2019t all over me.\u00a0He took my hair down and he put his hands on my\u00a0shoulder to offer support.\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0hardly call\u00a0that\u00a0fondling,\u201d anger came to her defense.<\/p>\n \u201cHe certainly seemed to consider you his property,\u201d Decker said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe did not,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cEtiennes\u00a0would\u00a0never mate outside their species.\u00a0The life span\u00a0is\u00a0too different.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSex doesn\u2019t have to mean mating,\u201d Decker said.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve heard Wayfarer women\u00a0are\u00a0quite amorous and promiscuous.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHang on\u00a0just\u00a0a minute,\u201d Adara\u2019s temper flared.\u00a0\u201cWhat right do you have to question my relationship with someone?\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0not reported any nor\u00a0is\u00a0it required I do unless it\u2019s with someone in the services.\u00a0Patr isn\u2019t in the services\u00a0so\u00a0even if I\u00a0were\u00a0having sex with him, it\u00a0would be\u00a0none of your\u00a0damn\u00a0business.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like people man handling my crew,\u201d he growled at her.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u00a0was\u00a0hardly man handling me.\u00a0If he was,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0up to me to complain about it not you.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0my body.\u00a0You have no say in what happens to me in\u00a0that\u00a0way,\u201d she said stepping\u00a0so\u00a0close their bodies almost touched.<\/p>\n He grabbed her arms and pulled her on tiptoe.\u00a0He looked down at her breasts pushing against him, \u201cDon\u2019t push me, Adara.\u201d<\/p>\n She put her hands on his chest.\u00a0His heart thudded quickly under her hands.\u00a0She caught her breath as he dragged her against him.\u00a0She felt his arousal and felt an answering need in her own body.\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019ve overstepped your authority, captain,\u201d she said.\u00a0His mouth\u00a0was so\u00a0close, she wanted it on hers.<\/p>\n Let’s meet this amazing author! One last thing \u2013 though this isn\u2019t on my blog but in my group on Facebook \u2013 I\u2019ve been doing live (typed) interviews.\u00a0 I create a post about the author and the book we\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 Then in the comments I ask question and the author answers.\u00a0 Others are invited to ask as well.<\/p>\n One thing I want to say \u2013 I don\u2019t charge for any of this.\u00a0 Yes, it takes time and effort but I\u2019m not out any money.\u00a0 I\u2019ve gotten to know some great authors and learned about genres I don\u2019t write in.<\/p>\n My philosophy \u2013 hmmm well I\u2019d like to have some lofty esoteric response here but the answer is simple.\u00a0 I\u2019m an author.\u00a0 Almost daily, I get requests to advertise with some group or someone wants to do a review \u2013 but of course there\u2019s a charge for it. Being an author is expensive.\u00a0 Most of us in this field are saving for expensive items like editing and book covers.\u00a0 While we put out a lot for these ($300+ for editing and anywhere from $50 up for covers) we make very little in royalties \u2013 even as a self published author a lot of people take their share first.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have the money to help in most situations but I can say \u2013 hey come put your stuff on my site and I\u2019ll post them. One post \u2013 if it\u2019s sent to me in an organized fashion \u2013 takes very little time and effort on my part.\u00a0 If it takes very little effort and it helps people, then why not do it? \nET: <\/strong>Thank you, I hope what I do helps the authors who are featured.\u00a0 I have four categories which specifically pertain to authors. Tips for Authors (https:\/\/eileentroemel.com\/category\/tips-for-authors\/<\/a>).\u00a0 This is a series of blog posts which I hope will help writers who think they are ready to step from final draft to editing and hopefully publishing.\u00a0 As I think of more topics I plan to add to this.\u00a0 Editor Interviews (https:\/\/eileentroemel.com\/category\/editor-interview\/<\/a>) which asks editors key questions.\u00a0 This gives authors a chance to get to know editors and how they think. \n<\/strong> ET: <\/strong>For a long time, I tried to be traditionally published.\u00a0 I finally gave up on publishers and decided to leap into the deep end of the pool.\u00a0 Once I started, I published all my backlog which included a meditation book, romance novel, and three poetry books.\u00a0 Then I sat back and said \u2013 \u2018What\u2019s next?\u2019\u00a0 During a discussion with my daughter, she told me to write her a scifi romance with a woman who wasn\u2019t all that strong to begin with but by the end of the \u2026 book but in this case series as well, she was strong and confident.\u00a0 So Wayfarer came to be.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong> ET: <\/strong>I\u2019m not big on research.\u00a0 First I write off the cuff.\u00a0 So as the story comes to me, I write it.\u00a0 If I need to know something, I use my phone and google it.\u00a0 But prior to starting Wayfarer, I did a lot of things.\u00a0 Science fiction for me put it squarely in the space arena.\u00a0 I knew I wanted to focus on a woman.\u00a0 I started thinking about her being different and how did she stand out.\u00a0 This led me to well if she\u2019s in space maybe she\u2019s not fully human.\u00a0 When I thought of an alien race, I considered what we here on earth didn\u2019t like.\u00a0 Prejudices\u2026 now this is a big topic and no I\u2019m not diving into politics\u2026 but I grew up watching westerns and remember a lot of derogatory comments about people with mixed races \u2013 so part Native American and part white typically in those stories.\u00a0 I also considered groups of people who are disliked.\u00a0 Being partly Irish, I considered the Travelers \u2013 they have a bad reputation along with Gypsies or Romani \u2013 not trying to insult anyone here \u2013 just thinking of groups who\u2019ve been disliked on sight.\u00a0 Put all of this into a pot and stir and I came up with Adara, half human and half Wayfarer, pilot for spaceships who has skills because of her genetics but also because of her genetics people distrusted her.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>Fun fact\u2026 well this was supposed to be a stand alone, one and done book.\u00a0 I finished the first book, sent it to my readers, and started thinking about what next.\u00a0 Then all of my readers came back and said \u2013 what\u2019s next?\u00a0 I said \u2013 no.\u00a0 Her story is done.\u00a0 Again my daughter who wanted the story in the first place said \u2013 but you left things incomplete.\u00a0 Now I hate that in books so I panicked.\u00a0 She said \u2013 well what about her family?\u00a0 What happened with the Barions are they going to let go or will they come after her again? This started me thinking and the next thing I knew \u2013 book 2 happened \u2013 Wayfarer Clans<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>Yes, I do have a day job.<\/p>\n
\nET: <\/strong>I work at a University as an administrative assistant.<\/p>\n
\nET: <\/strong>This is easy \u2013 my 3rd<\/sup> grade teacher when I was 8 assigned us a short story to write.\u00a0 It\u2019s the first time I realized I could create stories from my imagination.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>I have a ridiculously large family between my family and my husband\u2019s.\u00a0 Some \u2013 well I\u2019m not sure if they even know I write.\u00a0 I\u2019ve not had any negative reactions from them.\u00a0 My mom even knew I write erotica (under a pen name) and she shrugged.\u00a0 She never read it but she never said anything negative about it to me.\u00a0 She loved my poetry books and any book with no sex in it.\u00a0 She even read Wayfarer.\u00a0 I said, you know there\u2019s sex in there.\u00a0 She said she skipped over it.\u00a0 Many of my friends have been asked odd questions when I know they\u2019re experts in something.\u00a0 Some people have asked to be put in my books.\u00a0 On occasion I\u2019ve done that.\u00a0 And yes, I\u2019ve even killed off people in my story who annoy me.\u00a0 But I\u2019m not telling you who and why.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>I write as I go. If the characters aren\u2019t talking, I\u2019m not writing.\u00a0 I have almost 30 WIPs (works in progress).\u00a0 I also write from start to finish. \u00a0If I write out of sequence, I struggle to make it all fit.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>This is easy \u2013 when a reader says \u2013 I love your books.\u00a0 I feel such a sense of relief that my stories aren\u2019t complete crap (yes on my bad days I think they are) and that someone actually likes them.<\/p>\n
\nET: <\/strong>This varies for each story.\u00a0 I think the first time I wrote an action scene where I had to describe in detail what happens to the human body when you stab it or slam a hammer into it \u2013 that was hard finding the right balance between me gagging because I hated the scene and still being descriptive enough that the reader wasn\u2019t disappointed.\u00a0 As for sex scenes, these are really technical.\u00a0 You want the soft words and the sensual feeling but gauging the level of heat in them is crucial.\u00a0 Additionally, you don\u2019t want extra arms or readers saying \u2013 If they\u2019re doing this, how can they be doing that?\u00a0 So it\u2019s technical.\u00a0 Plus coming up with words which aren\u2019t the anatomical words can be tricky because you don\u2019t want them to sound completely ridiculous.\u00a0 I actually find these scene particularly fun to write \u2013 not for the sexual content but because they make me think and work at writing.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>Aside from writing, I love to crochet.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been crocheting since I was 12.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had patterns published in magazines and have even published my own patterns.\u00a0 I also have a large family.\u00a0 In my own family, I have a husband and three daughters but our expanded family is ridiculously large.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>Let me preface this by saying I\u2019ve been in customer service for most of my adult life.\u00a0 I do not like rude people.\u00a0 If you have a problem, state it politely and clearly.\u00a0 Accept that sometimes the answer is no.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been in stores and other places where people are trying to get their way and they can\u2019t \u2013 usually it\u2019s against policy.\u00a0 I remember standing in line at the DMV (department of motor vehicles) and this woman was complaining because the person behind the counter wouldn\u2019t allow her to do what she wanted.\u00a0 Now, I worked at the DMV phone line, and KNEW state statutes.\u00a0 This woman got louder and louder.\u00a0 I could see the person behind the counter getting more and more nervous.\u00a0 I spoke up and said, you\u2019re asking her to break state law.\u00a0 She cannot do that.\u00a0 She\u2019ll lose her job.\u00a0 The person didn\u2019t like it but I think the people around me were happy the argument ended.\u00a0 It probably helped the line moved forward too.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>Fair warning \u2013 this is not a polite answer \u2026. SHUT THE FUCK UP!\u00a0 I don\u2019t like mornings. [NA:<\/strong> LOL!]<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>ET: <\/strong>They aren\u2019t famous but I\u2019d like to gather my mother and aunts, grandmothers, great grandmothers, and so on going back in my family.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to listen to all their stories and learn about their lives.\u00a0 Of course it would need to be recorded so I get every word.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nET: <\/strong>Well typing this out is going to make me tired but just for you.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got two short stories I\u2019m writing for two different anthologies. I\u2019m working on a co-write with another author for a children\u2019s book which is probably going to morph into three books.\u00a0 I\u2019m doing refreshes on a number of my early books.\u00a0 I\u2019m working on the third Wild Magic book.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got two finished books which need editing and prep for publishing. I\u2019ve got three crochet pattern books to do final touches on.\u00a0 Other authors have asked me to edit their books \u2013 we\u2019re trading services \u2013 so two full length novels to edit. I\u2019m helping someone hone their editing skills.\u00a0 Did I mention the 30 or so WIPs that tug at me?<\/p>\n
\nET: <\/strong>When I first started writing I said I wanted to write at least one book in every genre.\u00a0 I know that will never happen because there are genres I won\u2019t touch.\u00a0 I typically write scifi fantasy romance.\u00a0 I\u2019m stretching out into paranormal and others.\u00a0 I won\u2019t write in horror, dark anything, and probably not historical \u2013 too much research is needed.\u00a0 Fantasy is probably my favorite genre to read and write because I love seeing the different worlds and societies that come from people\u2019s minds.\u00a0 I get to make all the rules.\u00a0 Who wouldn\u2019t want ultimate control like that?<\/p>\n
